WBP x YRMTB GUIDED RIDES
Celebrate the opening of the next stage of Warburton Bike Park with free guided rides led by Warburton Bike Park staff and the Yarra Ranges Mountain Bike Club committee members.
Sign up on the day at the Warburton Bike Park Tent and join knowledgeable park staff and local club guides who helped shape these trails. It’s a chance to be shown around the new stage by the people who know it best and to learn everything there is to know about how the park came to be.
Meet at Wesburn Park Trail Head, where riders will catch the shuttle directly to the Mount Tugwell Summit. From there, guides will lead each ride from the summit all the way down to either Wesburn or Warburton, showcasing the brand‑new trails best suited to each group’s skill level.
On the shuttle ride up, guides will host an informal chat, giving riders insight into the park, the trails and the story behind Warburton Bike Park, with plenty of opportunity to ask questions.

MEET THE RIDE GUIDES
Dave - Project Officer
Dave is the second‑longest‑standing member of the Warburton Bike Park team and the unofficial keeper of all knowledge. If you’re wondering how, why or when something happened – Dave’s probably got the answer.
He’s been in the thick of the project for quite a while, knows the ins and outs of just about everything, and is the team’s go‑to guy for… well, everything.
Known for:
- Bringing the fun to the team
- Loving a good joke
- Actively encouraging ChatGPT meme content
- Being able to talk through the full history of the park – with commentary
Ride with Dave and expect equal parts bike park knowledge and laughs.
Matt - Executive Project Manager
Matt is the longest‑standing member of the team, having spent eight years in the trenches helping turn Warburton Bike Park from an idea into the place you’re riding today.
Without Matt, there’s a strong chance this park simply wouldn’t exist. He knows everything there is to know about the park, the process, and the journey – and still finds time to squeeze in a ride.
Matt is also well known as the big‑ideas guy. Some of those ideas fly straight through… and some occasionally get the brakes gently (or not so gently) pumped by Scott – usually for very good engineering reasons.
Known for:
- Being the reason the bike park is here
- Thinking big (very big)
- Knowing absolutely everything (seriously)
- Loving a spin on the e‑bike
- Dreaming it up while Scott figures out how to bring it to life
If you want the full story – including the ideas that made it and the ones that almost did – Matt’s your guy.
Scott - Project Manager
Scott is the engineer of the team, which means he has a deep appreciation for bridges, boardwalks and anything that lets his engineering brain run wild.
His personal motto is “keep it simple” – if it were up to him, the trails would be named 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. He knows the trail network so well he could probably ride it blindfolded.
While Matt dreams big, Scott’s the one who helps make those ideas flow smoothly on the ground, bringing serious trail smarts and technical know‑how to every decision – without ever taking the fun out of it.
Known for:
- Knowing every trail inside and out
- Being an ex-Cross‑Country National Mountain Bike Champion
- Loving to pedal
- Making big ideas ride even better
- Being very, very fast
If it’s trail knowledge or technical detail you’re after, Scott’s your guy. And lucky these rides are all downhill – because there’s no way you’d catch him on the climbs… and honestly, maybe not even on the descents.
Shell - Project Support Officer
Shell is one of the newer members of the team, usually found in the office doing very important officy stuff – all while thinking about bikes.
She’s passionate about mountain biking and women’s participation in the sport, runs a local women’s riding group with her legendary crew, and is the team’s go‑to socials and networking gal.
Known for:
- Making things happen behind the scenes
- Championing community and connection
- Loving going downhill and not so much up
- Absolutely not being able to catch Scott on a climb (no matter how hard she tries)
If it’s about people, community or stoke – Shell’s across it.
Joel - Trail Crew Extraordinaire
One of the OG Trail Wizards.
Joel is part of the trail crew, a chippy by trade, and the reason he’s always getting handed a drill and told to “build us something.” He lives and breathes the trails and knows exactly what goes into keeping them running mint.
Known for:
- Loving a good descent
- Riding with his mates
- Knowing how the park is built and maintained
- Keeping the trails in top‑top condition
Ride with Joel and you’ll gain a whole new appreciation for what goes into the dirt beneath your tyres.
